Great song, great version. Nice how the steel guitar carries the orchestral part. Great musicianship. Thanks for posting this here - I had never heard this version, and it's an excellent example of Waylon's versatility.

If there are any, they are very very quiet about it. We Waylonistas will back Ol Hoss all the way, and then some. Remember that he came from honky tonks and places where creative differences and musical preferences were often settled in the parking lot, and still are.

I don't think anybody really knows what it's about. "someone left the cake out in the rain, etc. :)

Waylon's autobiography has a funny story about what Richard Harris said when they ran into each other after Waylon won a Grammy for this cover of his song.
The man had a range and depth that is and was hard to match, let alone surpass.

Is this song about the L.A. park? I would like to think it is about the hardships of the business and following your dreams in L.A. I think the cake stands for that fading dream of fame and fortune melting away in the rain.

Waylon's "MacArthur Park" is just as Haunting as Johnny Cash's "If I could read my mind" . Outstanding!

I was sure this couldn't be the same ridiculous song Elvis made fun of in the '68 Comeback. I was wrong........never expected anything like that from Waylon, lol
