This is a song about the Old West before they were states. At that time it was inhabited by plenty of Outlaws and such. It was written by Tilman Franks and sung by Claude King. Claude King had several popular songs, Wolverton Mountain, She Knows Why to name a couple. He does this song in D# I dropped it down to D so I wouldn't have to use a capo. It is also a bit easier for my to sing in D. Tilman Franks is probably best known for his works with Johnny Horton.

This song was actually written by my grandfather Clyde Baum...copy writes sold to Tilman Franks. My grandfather played on the Louisiana Hayride, recorded with lots of old country stars, like Hank Williams Sr. So my mom & I found this video of you here & thought it was cool.
