lol on my first playthrough I spotted the dude and shot him as a precaution anyway, so I didn't really get too alarmed =P

Dead Space is a linear sequence of shocks, imo. There are a shocking moments, there are creepy moments, but nothing really... shit-your-pants-run-away-scary­, I think.
