  • Santa Maria is now a three lane freeway.

  • wow...that must suck

the best part about it was that it was a true highway...two lanes

  • I recognize a few things in the video: Mileage sign somewhere near Pismo Beach (00:20), the exit sign for Broadway aka. Route 135 in Santa Maria (00:40), Gaviota Pass (00:59). I lived in California and moved to New Jersey in 1999 and haven't been to the Santa Barbara County for nearly ten years. This video gives me a lot of memories from my childhood. 101 is my favorite freeway.

  • Thanks

Watching this video always brings back memories for me too

the 101 is without a doubt the nicest freeway I have ever been on

  • DREAMING OUT OF the PASSENGER SEAT

  • @madmikeF 4 lanes in each directions? It is very common in L.A., I do recall the 405 Freeway, which is extremely busy, having five, even six lanes per direction

  • One most roads that I drove on in So cal last summer it was 4 lanes.

  • Here in New Jersey, especially the suburbs and urban areas, most highways are three lanes in each direction. Three lane highways are common in New Jersey. However, I have seen two lane highways in suburban New Jersey, such as State Highway 17 in Rochelle Park, New Jersey, and State Highway 4 east of Teaneck, New Jersey.

  • Taking pictures/video from driver's seat doesn't even look safe. Even on the 101 (which I consider one of the safest freeways I've been on)

  • 101 Freeway is my favorite highway also because it doesn't have any tolls between San Francisco and Los Angeles; I lived in California until I moved to New Jersey in 1999; Once I moved to New Jersey, there are something I've never seen nor knew what it was: Tolls. But everything is closer to each other which means that I don't have to waste a lot of time getting to places.

    Gives me back memories...great music.

  • You're welcome. And I also like the Beach Boys. And I agree with you; I lived in Santa Barbara County until I moved to New Jersey in 1999 and traffic was so uncommon on the 101 and I didn't know anything about traffic so once I moved to the east coast, I complained too much about traffic.

Plus, 135 was also my favorite freeway as well, but it's mostly city street (Broadway) in downtown Santa Maria. I wish I could tour Santa Barbara County again as I haven't been there for a decade.
