mv_alg_#09 (machine vision algorithm #9) is a sort of electronic version of fun-fair mirrors, the works design qualities rely on its written code, and the experience of that code when it is executed in a specific installation set-up. The piece consists of a screen, a webcam that registers the space in front of the screen, and a graphic pattern result of processing the images from the webcam. More specifically, the software extracts the amount of movement between images received from the camera, and uses these to affect a graphic process on the screen. The focus of the installation is the design of effect, both graphically and in terms of interaction. The piece was originally developed for the onedotzero festival that took place at Moderna Museet in Stockholm in 2005. The software is written in C, using OpenGL for the rendering graphics and OpenCV, developed by intel, for the computer vision algorithms.
