In this episode we check out the Marshall V-LCD70P-HDMI V-LCD70P-3GSDI
Also shows
Peaking Filter (Focus assist)
The Peaking Filter is used to aid the camera operator in obtaining the sharpest possible picture. When activated, all color will be removed from the display and a black-and-white image will remain. The internal processor will display RED color on the screen where sharp edges appear. When the camera operator adjusts (racks) the focus control (on the camera lens), different parts of the image will have RED colored edges. This indicates that that portion of the image is sharp or in focus. Final focus is achieved by racking the camera lens focus control back and forth until the desired portion of the image has RED colored edges. Please note that this feature is most effective when the subject is properly exposed and contains enough contrast to be processed.

  • I'm using a 5D mk2 which haven't got i buld-in colorbar generator.

Can I download a precise colorbar somewhere and store it on my CF-card

to do the same type of calibration ?

PS: I am from Denmark = Pal territory ;=)

  • Very good explanation. Thx so much.

  • Guy,

i watched this and your other setting up lavalier mic video

great job on these tutorials...some of the best on the net for this stuff

  • Can I use the Peaking Filter while recording?

  • not that I'm aware of...sorry

  • You rite. He should have set up his peak white at 100 IRE (CIEE) instead of 80% gray. People who set it at 80 are those coming from film background. Also, you only set it at 80 when your pedestal is at 7.5 IRE (in analog). But if you should digital (SD or HD), your pedestal (black level) is always at 0 so you want to take advantage of the full dynamic range going from 0 to 100 (even 110 !).

  • Isn't more proper to set the white to 1 volt (meaning to pure white 100%) and not at 80% gray? Can you explain why you've setup it this way? Is it because of NTSC? (I am in europe using PAL)

Keep up the excellent work you do with this series...cheers

  • Is it possible to use a 24" iMac as a monitor using a HDV, using like a firewire or something of that nature?

  • I will look in to it thank you.
