Anne (Sally Hawkins) fell deeply in love with handsome young naval officer Frederick Wentworth (Rupert Penry-Jones) at the age of nineteen. But with neither fortune nor rank to recommend him, Anne's family were against the match and persuaded her to break off the engagement.

Eight years later, Anne has lived to regret her decision. She never stopped loving Frederick and when he returns from sea having made his fortune and reputation, she can only watch as every eligible young woman in the district falls at his feet.

Can Frederick forgive Anne for listening to her family instead of her heart?

  • people are so shallow, only going on about her hair and how 'ugly' she is. If thats all you care about then you shouldn't be watching it as it means that you dont understand it.

There is more to a good story than how good looking the characters are.

  • To answer some of your questions, Charles will eventually inherit that big house, but Mary is so impatient and selfish she can't wait for her in-laws to die before enjoying the wealth of the estate. As for Elizabeth, as a woman in her thirties she is even more of a "spinster" than Anne, but as her father's favorite her single status is somehow forgiven. It jut goes to show how rotten they all are to Anne for no reason whatsoever!

  • @xoBabyGirl64 I actually think she's very pretty...and if the physical appearance of the lead actress is ruining it for you, maybe you should go watch something more shallow?

  • Such lovely and doting parents, Mary and Charles...

  • Why did they have to choose such an ugly actress? I mean, she doesn't have to be expecially pretty because then you cannot really relate to the matter. But a simply ordinarly pretty, sympathic if you wish, girl would do.This just ruins the movie for me.

  • Oh god, those awful bangs.

  • @angiehoang206 i think it was because Anne was living with her wealthy father and Mary was living with her husband, who was not as rich as her father. Back then your class and wealth depended on your husband.

  • @bvesey13 i seee thank you for clearing it up! Isnt Charles Musgrove rich though?

  • @angiehoang206 maybe it had something to do with the allowances the daughters are given. Anne could have saved hers whereas the other sisters didn't.

  • why is Anne rich and her sister is poor? Im confused
