To be frank, it's far more likely that a baby will hurt a cat than vice-versa. I'd bet that 99% of occasions that a cat lashes out a baby would be because the baby hurts the cat in the first place. For example, by pulling on it, tugging at it, screaming at it, etc.

Just be sensible with pets and babies. Neither can control themselves fully in the same sense adults can (although some adults I've met make me reconsider the quality of 'adult' judgement sometimes).
