Back in the early 90s when The Flaming Lips were still a hard, psychedelic rock band, my friends and I worshipped them. We had our own brand of this genre of music and we were a band called OATS! We kind of had our own little cult/commune in San Francisco. We all lived together and we were all either Dave or Chris (mostly...there was a Danny too) There were 6 of us. We had 2 bass players and 2 guitar players a drummer and a singer. We were really loud. We were banned from most clubs in SF because we were too loud.
We made 1 piece of vinyl. It was a split single with our friends Wife. We had a collective. We made a Zine and actually produced 43 or so issues. We made 2 VHS compilations of local SF bands. We were also very inspired by The MC5s communal art community - The Rainbow Party/Trans Love Energies.
The year was (I believe) 1994. No one had a cell phone or a computer. We still used type writers. It was the early 90s. Everyone was making singles.
This was my 20s. Good times.
