I was in this show! Go Erin and Ryan! I played Mr. Walker in this prodction! It was one of my favorite shows!

"They Shoot Horses, Don't They" is not based on "Steel Pier;" rather (as discussed by John Kander and Fred Ebb in "Colored Lights"), the latter was created after they'd failed to receive the rights to make the former into a musical.

As you know, this show has its sad moments. This particular song was not one of them. There is a movie, "They Shoot Horses Don't They", based on this show that is really dark. Good luck with your production. It's a great show with music that will stay with you.
