I beg your pardon, but Turks are increasingly falling back into islamic ideology and becoming less and less secular. Big parts of Turkey don't subscribe to the secular ideas of Kamal Ataturk, and had it not been for the Army, we would have been witnessing a Turkish version of the Islamic Republic today.

These original founders started realising the flaw in their original plans for a regime based on religion (modernised or not) and had a change of heart (this is what Sazegara is talking about in this video). They are the ones who started the reformist movement in 1997 when Khatami was elected for presidency.

And because of the mess the country was in with the Iraq war and all the sanctions, a lot of the original founders of the republic did not realise what was happening until it was too late. This ultra-conservative group is the one who has taken power now and Ahmadinejhad is one of them (It's argued that Khameneie isn't one of them, and is just afraid of losing power)...
