2nd short drive really but who's counting. Interior yet to go in, still fine tuning engine. Lots of fun so far, though!

  • This is the heaviest of the common conversions, and it ended up about 54/46 after about a 250# weight gain. Fine for my purposes and budget. Those who autocross and do track days don't seem to have problems, and any change in weight distribution appears to be more than offset by the additional torque and hp. The Ford conversions can be lightened with aluminum heads and removing a/c and p/s. The LSX all-aluminum swaps can be done for little to no weight gain.

  • one headlight up. classic winking v8 miata.

  • @lees8comments Yeah, it was definitely still a work in progress at that time.

  • Yeah, 2 years down the road from when I started I give the LS swaps a lot more consideration. They weren't nearly as sorted out as they are now. At the time the 5.0 fit my needs and my budget--and it still does. But for my next swap, if I do one, I'll seriously consider one of the LS versions.

  • bro put a thrush muffler on it and the miata will sound like a beast

  • Doesn't this swap mess up weight distribution ? the best thing in mx5 ?

  • @topdownfun22 Haha it was actually my intention of writing ´95. But thats really good info since im considering a 5.0 for mine too! Thanks

  • @bingoberra18 Yes, that's why I went with a '95 as it was the last year for the 5.0 in the Mustang. The 5.0 is a lot easier fit, and the conversion kit is designed for it. There were also emissions considerations.

  • @topdownfun22 Doesnt the 96 Mustang have the 4.6 Modular engine?

  • The old 5.0L had low factory hp but it has ENORMOUS potential. a 500hp or so Miata 5.0L is one HELL Quick car
