I made my Turnip into that thing you love... -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-

Blog: http://richardstep.com/

I enjoy holidays, especially with my little boy just eating up all of the excitement and joy that comes out of tons of people getting together and having fun. Halloween, AKA All Hallows Eve (All Holy Eve), All Saints Day Eve, and All Souls Day Eve Eve, is one of those days.

I detail a bit about the origins of Halloween, the name, the pumpkin carving, Irish farmers, beggars, & immigrants, turnips, good old Mr. Jack (of the lantern) and other such goodness.

Watch it, please!

I created this video and have all distribution rights to the video:
- The mask image used at about 3:43 was made by me.

  • Makes me glad to be Part Irish.

  • @ShmoNerd - me, too - my only problem is I think it's like 5% in me so I'm not sure I can take too much credit. :)

  • i agree with you so much it hurts...although the pain may be due from the candy....XD thanks for the info. i really enjoyed that :D

    plus i DO like turnips...XD

  • @archykins : oh don't get me started on the candy! :) I need to take it to work so I can stop looking at it. :) ...hmmm maybe I should give turnips another chance - to eat - not carve :)

  • Arguably Hallowe'en is a Pictish-originated festival, rather than Celtic and Scottish immigrants to US probably brought more Hallowe'en aspects than Irish, but so what...but it's probably a mix! Great that folks celebrate it, so origins secondary to this! Though use a NEEP (turnip!) lantern as I did as a kid, rather than a pumpkin (ah WHAT?!lol)
