This marvellous song written by Henry Mancini was released on Shirley's 1968 album 12 Of Those Songs. Released during Shirley's dry spell concerning record sales towards the end of the 1960s it reached Nr. 38 in the album charts and stayed in the charts for 3 weeks.

Lyrics:

When we played our charade
We were like children posing
Playing at games, acting out names
Guessing the parts we played

Oh, what a hit we made

We came on next to closing
Best on the bill, lovers until
Love left the masquerade
Fate seemed to pull the strings

I turned and you were gone
While from the darkened wings
The music box played on
Sad little serenade

Song of my heart's composing
I hear it still, I always will
Best on the bill
Charade

  • I became a Bassey fan in the 1990's after seeing "Have Voice, Will Travel" on PBS. No one has come close to her on the music scene for a long, long time! The voice is magnificent, and her concerts around the world were legendary performances.
