@carpe The former eastern block countries were not socialist nor communist they were totalitarian countries. The workers had little say in government policy and decision making. As a result the whole system stagnated. The western media often referred to them as socialists or communist countries in order to frighten the working classes not to challenge capitalism.The whole world is now going through capitalism and millions of working class people are suffering. capitalism will eventually fall

People from EE emigrate because the countries are going through transitional periods, which takes 20-30 years! This is one generation's time, of course you'd like to emigrate to a country with better conditions even though your country is now technically capitalist. And, mind you, transitional periods often means lots of corruption
