Very nice set. Good demostration of filter hum. And I was wondering if you could demonstrate sodering irons and guns in a video on here sometime. I like your demonstrations and I'm new to it plus other ppls videos on here already don't have as good quality as your videos. Thanks either way!

Actually, Plaskon is not the "same" as Catalin. Some do confuse the three including Bakelite with Catalin, but they are all different processes. Regards

Yes it is a five tube superhet and the coils tune it, it's very similar to some car radios. I'll try and check the cabinet about twice a year so see if it is still shrieking. The chassis screws are only finger tight so that the cabinet can move.

What an interesting design! Coil tuning sounds like it would be hard to align. Is this a superhet. with variable osc and RF coil?
Hi Rick,
Great radio and video. The little Catalin set is nice. It's guys like you that will help keep the hobby alive with clear, concise info, and great videos.
Are you a member of the Antique radio forum? The name sounds familiar.Take care,
Gary Rabbitt.

Hey Gary,
I must remember to check it every now and again because the plastic is shrinking. I am a member of Antique radio form, but I am not very active. It is just the way my time gets divided up.

Oh, I just wondered if anyone would notice. Gray Poupon and Pumpernickel Pretzels.

Rick,
Nice demonstrated filter hum...almost like the one coming from my Sparton.
Saw an eBay radio the other day. Description read: "Works good"...can hear it hum when I turn it on". My kind of seller.
Anyhow, cool little radio. Thanks for showing it.
Regards,
John

Hey John,
Thanks, well it's a common problem but I have not seen a demo of it. I pretty must do things as I find them, there's no need to make anything up. The real scary part was that the chassis was stuck in the cabinet because it had shrunk so much and was about to crack. We are talking real tears.
Regards
Rick
