Even as an outsider I can tell most of the stuff they say are excuses and bullshits. Those deans seriously have no integrity and no hair.

I don't feel sorry for unemployed lawyers. You wanted that law degree, you got it. You entered the field of law when you knew society did not need more lawyers. Now you can watch the teachers and nurses and engineers make the money while you sink under the weight of your student loan debt and desperately search for paralegal work. Have fun! And quit looking down your nose at people who don't have law degrees.

I am an Electrical Engineer I moved to china for a job, one day I was at a bar and met another American he told me he studied law I said cool what are you doing here? He said he was teaching English and making about 12K USD a year. Law School is a scam. Law School is for people who got worthless undergrad degrees in the Arts but want a high salary. Then after they graduate from school they learn that the US already has a massive oversupply of lawyers so they have to invent things to sue people.

Become a professor. free education, plenty of jobs, here and overseas, and tenure = free education for your kids. Seriously, ride the education bubble.

one problem with relying on the market to fix itself is that the market for law schools / students is artificial due to government loan funding for everyone / anyone. free market principles dont work when the free market isn't being applied!

Yeah there is a grea un-met need for lawyers......BY PEOPLE WHO CAN"T PAY!!!!! Well that 's great......
that will help pay of theose student loans!!
You know Dean....there is a great un-met need for Ferraris by people with no money to pay for them either....

No Dean Lewis of Hamline..."the market" does not determine whether there are too many lawyers. There is certainly no "free market" in terms of law school.
1. The government provides the loans for students to pay tuition...with no underwriting.
2. Said loans are NOT DISCHARGEABLE in bankruptcy;
3. The is no consumer fraud protection from law schools cooking the books with salary and income stats.

CONSIDER THE SOURCE:
This is like the fox telling you what a great idea it is to leave the hen house door open.
These Profs are making six figures on the backs of their law grads. Thet get paid regardless of what happens to you and they don't care......they already have your money.
If law practice is great...why are they not doing it? They are hiding out in academia.....and making bank.
What the law schools are charging gven the crap prospects is UNCONSCIONABLE....wake up people!

yup he's a douchbag. But hopefully you can learn the lesson, and not apply to law school unless you're really really certain
Simple points for incoming 1L's:
1:If you can't get into a Top 25 Law School, get the fuck out of this field while you still can.
2:If you are borrowing more than 50,000$ in debts, again, get the fuck out of this field while you still can.
3:If you think that BigLaw is the be all and end all of Law, take my previous advice and get the fuck out of this field while you still can.

"Having an education in employment law..." The dean at 2:42 makes the total bullshit statement. You DON'T need to spend 3 years in law school and $120K in debt to understand a simple area of the law, especially when employment law is just one class in law school.
"Why do we view coffee shops different from law schools?" 3:42. What a fucking idiot. It's because COFFEE SHOPS DON'T CHARGE $120K TO DRINK COFFEE, AND YOU CAN CLOSE DOWN A COFFEE SHOP, but can't discharge your student loans.
