  • thanks, didn't realize you were the same one from the analog impressions videos. I'm in the market for my first analog synth and looking at the rogue, mg-1, or the newer mopho.

I'm a little concerned about the mopho using dco's and not getting the total analog sound as with these moog's, but at the same time I'd rather not have to tune it all the time, if the vco's drift out of tune sometimes. Thanks for your help and the awesome videos you got on here :)

  • @jgk381 As someone who has owned both the Mopho Keyboard and Moog Rogue, I can recommend the Rogue warmly! Re-adjusting the VCO's is super simple as the trim pots are easily accessible through small holes on the back of the instrument. In fact the Rogue is a lot better than the Little Phatty as well. Forget the Mopho. It sounds like a monophonic Tetra.Very frustrating instrument. The keybed is nice though. If I had one still I would have used it as a midi controller. Nothing else.

  • why does it sound like theres a flanger/phaser efffect or something on most patches? Is that how the rogue sounds or just how you programmed it?

  • @jgk381 This is a combination of two things. This synth is perfect for nice resonant filter sweeps. Secondly it has two oscillators. When they are not completely in tune with each other they will drift in a flanger like fashion. I hope this answers your question.

  • Learned that this was actually also the engine for Taurus II so apparently a lot more can be done with it than stepping on just bass sounds

  • @jgk381

There is a lot of black goo in most Moog Rogues, mine included. It is certainly unpleasant to clean up, but luckily there are replacement rotary pots, slider pots, and switches available through Tech Transplant if it is particularly bad. Worth the trouble.

  • @jgk381 cool thanks! i've always wanted a moog and that was the one I was leanig towards. One other question - I've read the mg-1's had a black foam that turned to goo over time. Since the rogue is supposed to be modeled after the mg-1 (or vice versa, not sure), does the rogue also have that same foam that turns to goo over time? Just wondering what to look out for when buying one.

  • This is awesome thank you!!
