My girl enjoying a nice hunk of fresh beef heart. Notice how she uses her carnassial teeth located at the back of the jaw to cut off pieces of heart into manageable swallow-able sizes.
A dog's teeth are designed for cutting meat and shearing bone. The Inuit actually remove the carnassial teeth of their sled dogs, the ones that persistently chew their harness. That's how effective these teeth in a canine's jaw are at cutting, obviously not a function required for eating a bowl of kibble.
It's also quite clear to see the teeth and gum cleansing action (think natural dental floss) that having to shear off pieces of meat (in this case beef heart) imparts, in contrast to canned dog foods and kibble that stick to teeth, causing tooth and gum disease.
looks like she's enjoying it! I've never given my dog beef hearts before but, he loves raw beef bones and chicken cartilage (not bones). Do you give it to her frozen or thawed?
