The banned 1941 Tex Avery cartoon featuring Bugs Bunny. Salvaged from poor quality copies and digitally restored for Historical and Educational purposes courtesy of mostoffensivevideo.com

All This and Rabbit Stew is a one-reel animated cartoon short subject in the Merrie Melodies series, produced in Technicolor and released to theatres on September 20, 1941 by Warner Bros. Pictures and The Vitaphone Corporation. It was produced by Leon Schlesinger and directed by an uncredited Tex Avery, with musical supervision by Carl W. Stalling and voices by Mel Blanc.

The cartoon was the final Avery-directed Bugs Bunny short to be released. Although it was produced before The Heckling Hare (after the production of which Avery was suspended from the Schlesinger studio and defected to Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer), it was released afterwards. The title is a parody of that of All This and Heaven Too. Because the cartoon was released after Avery left Schlesinger, Avery's name does not appear in the credits.

All This and Rabbit Stew is now in the public domain, after the copyright expired in 1969. The cartoon has been considered controversial due to racial stereotyping, which prompted United Artists to withhold this cartoon from syndication in 1968, making it one of the infamous Censored Eleven.

I don't think it was racist at all. I actually thought it was funny. I appreciate that at least one cartoon creator back in the days gave an african-american an equal opportunity to get outsmarted by Bugs Bunny. I mean really, he did the same thing to Elmer Fudd.

I lol'd when Bugs had a pair of dice in his hand and they both started shooting craps. Btw, I'm black.

Other than the part with the dice it's not all that racist, besides how he looks.

Get the ENTIRE fuck outta here with that. We know that this is racist and some of us are willing to call it what it is. This isn't an Affirmative Action moment for us, it's fucking racist.

You want to know why you didn't know that this was racist when you were a child, it's because when you're a child, you're not supposed to know how fucked up the world is yet. This episode was banned for reason, it's offensive to my people.

Not for nothing, but if there were a variety of caricatures of black people in these early cartoons (like there were with whites), blacks might not have found it so offensive; not to mention the wholehearted willingness that Americans accepted and applied harsh stereotypes to blacks anywhere. Blacks had good reason to be offended moreso then. A typical issue you may be having is engaging your present values to the context of that era instead of looking objectively from that era's p.o.v.
