The Kenai River is a very busy place during fishing season, but the same can not be said during the dead of winter. The snow covered cliffs and trees, bald eagles perched near their nests, moose, and numerous bird species were the only witnesses to our silent passage from Jim's landing to the mighty Skilak Lake. Recent visitors leaving their footprints along our route included Lynx, Coyote, Fox, Hare, River Otter, Moose, and Beaver. Soon both Skilak Lake and Kenai Lake would be covered by a solid sheet of ice, but during our trip the ice only coated our drysuits, skis, poles, backpacks, and well actually everything that the water touched and made for quite the adventure!
@78jhartung - We actually just paddled the Kenai River section between Kenai and Skilak Lakes and took out at the mouth on the river on the shores of Skilak for the ski back;)
