@Skinhorse61 i do try talking to them and calm them down when they have those night frights...but i'm still not sure about whether they should or not sleep for 12 hours straight...because i've heard a lot of vets saying that birds need straight 12 hours of unbroken sleep in order to keep them healthy with a longer life span...but yeah i do suppose these vets do exaggerate quit a lot...if a bird gets thirsty or hungry in the night,he is bound to wake up...also when they wanna poop.they'll wake up
water create bacteria every four hours,so,we need change a few times a day water for healty cockatiel,at least one time a day if you work and are very busy working,a have a cockatiel, six years with me,and i always change the water to avoid infeccion on him, your cockatiel is cute, take care of him,he deserves that.

@mexicanbirdlady > Thanks for your sweet concern. I do change out the water everyday and give the container a good scrub often.

i have four teils, can you please tell me how to get them to sleep for a constant twelve hours in the night...cuz they get thirsty during the night and i have to offer them to drink their water...so that does break their sleep at least twice.. cuz i have to turn the lights out completely and that's why they can't see a thing in their cage so i have to feed them their water..please tell me if i'm doing the right thing.

@BennyJennyJ1> Honestly, I don't think birds get very thirsty at night. If you do have concerns, though, I suggest that you buy a birdie night light that will offer just enough illumination to guide them to the water dish. Besides, they know where it is. If they are really thirsty, they will find it--even in the dark. So, my recommendation is: Keep your own health and sanity and don't ever wake up again to hand-deliver water to your birds. Thanks for visiting Puka! So glad you've enjoyed him.

@Skinhorse61 yeah but in an attempt to find the water, one will scare the rest and that makes them go crazy and try flying in the cage...that could make their feathers bleed at times...i've tried putting on a night light but yet they have had night frights....but i will definitely not bother them during their sleep again, keep uploading your lovely videos.:)

@BennyJennyJ1 > There could be any number of reasons as to why the birds get night frights. My female used to get them a lot (in darkness), but finally settled now for the most part. I think you just have to calm your birds during those incidences when they come, but I would not necessarily chalk it up to them being thirsty. Also, I doubt that they need to try to sleep 12 hours straight. They can catch birdy naps during the day if they need to. Mine certainly do. Hope that helps! Take care!
