This was always my favorite version -- Price, Fleming and Moffo did a great job as well but this one had the best tempo....the best emotion.....hard to beat.
I remember this aria sung by Mary Garden, an acoustic recording. She was stupendous by her subtle crescendo from the beginning to the end. Louise was truly a jeune fille who gave herself to a man. Very chaste at the beginning, a enamored woman at the end.
Her recording of La Traviata was responsible for my love of opera. She was a great singer and artist who died too young.

Grace Moore could render that type of thing too.
But Pilar is not so bad, après tout.
