As Green Water, the Native elder at Plimoth Plantation in Plymouth, Massachusetts, Shirley Highrock of Chatham works to challenge some of the cultural stereotypes and myths about the Native Americans who lived alongside the English in 1627.

  • I can understand why she and other Native Americans don't want to be called Indians. Because, they aren't from India. Columbus thought he was near Indonesia and didn't want to accept the fact that he had 'discovered' a 'new' world. The reason I emphasize the words discovered and new is because the Vikings discovered the Americas before Columbus did. So, why do people continue to believe that Columbus was the founder? But, enough of my useless rambling. She's a wise lady.
