Male U. mordax can't find the female. Note the shaking pedipalps and metasoma (called "juddering," and part of courtship), as well as fanning the substrate with his pectines (to search for the female's pheromones).

Nothing terribly interesting happens after the first minute or so.

  • @8barrbarr8 There's a handful of common names, most involving "forest scorpion" and "western / wood / California" or just "Mordant scorpion." But don't expect to see it in a shop -- the best way to find one is to just go hunting in western Oregon or northern California.

  • Hey nice vid I was thinking of getting this scorpion could you tell me the common name? Alot of the shops in my area aren't to sharp with scientific names
