Alan Richman Takes Eric Ripert to Costco

In what he hopes is "the first installment of the next great cooking show," Alan Richman made the video "Avec Alan" over at GQ. Riffing on Avec Eric, Richman takes Eric Ripert to Costco, a place that "epitomizes what Westchester dining is all about." Ripert, of course, is "freaked out" and depressed: "In that store, nothing looks like it's coming from planet Earth." Ripert goes as far as refusing to push the shopping cart, reasoning, "Yes, I know I am being a spoiled brat, but for me it is an acceptance of the system."

@nolachris43 sadly in many parts of the u.s. and for many reasons it's not feasible. Small places are often much more expensive. And many people can't afford it. Even harder in a bad economy. Plus in many places people work a long time just to get buy and don't have the time to shop many places. And bottom line the quality isn't in many places. And if you're in parts not near a dock good luck getting fresh seafood. sucks but it is what it is.

excellent video...I enjoy seeing Eric and Alan being down-to earth people...I share the same opinion as Eric re. shopping in US vs. France.....my mom is at small market every day and is on priority list for butcher to do things for her..

@johnsned yeah maybe, but i thought it was great. i think he was being genuine about a lot of that. you could tell his distaste for costco but even admitted there was some stuff that wasn't so bad. those steaks looked delicious..

yes! i hadn't watched this untiil today, the 13th of september, but i have put herbs on my steaks just like ripert did for a long time. yes. that is awesome. hahaha.

I think Eric Ripert was being tremendously generous and kind. After this Eric went directly to his agents office and kicked him square in the nuts for getting him in to this.
