Look on streetfire. there is a video of my friend's Built E28 M5 running a 12.8 @ 112 in the 1/4 mile. the car was around 3350 with him in it, and was ALL MOTOR.

Sadly, the car was totaled in 2007 when it was parked outside of a friend's house (4 days after we got it running again due to a cracked valve seat). The car was hit by a drunk chick on her 3rd offense. No license, no insurance. She tried to flee, but her car was too smashed up.

5 years, $30k, and countless hours down the drain. RIP

I have an e28 M5, an e30 M3 and a 914-6 Porsche... I prefer driving the e28 over the other two... the e30 kicks the living crap out of the other two in cornering... but the e28 has the best top end performance...

Toyota was commissioned by Porsche to help on cost cutting measures, no parts were exchanged. Toyota recommended that headlights, door panels, hood, and as many parts as possible be interchangeable between 911 and boxster models. Efficency of assembly line was improved. Boxster and Cayenne saved Porsche, couldn't have survived with just 911's.

Youre kidding right about the XJS.. Ive driven many XJS' and they feel like they belong on the water rather than on the road. My old mans fav car anyway.

I agree about fun. Im 20. Nothing matters more. My next purchase will no doubt be a maserati gransport w/ tubi exhaust. now thats fun.

And a Boxster S is not for drag racing either, its built purely to handle as well as possible.

The M5s are still built for racing, which is what the the m-division does btw. hence 'M' motorsport. They are built as a saloon that you can take to the track and thrash it..

E30 M3s are nice and so are the old 914s but the M3 has nowhere near the poise and balance of a Boxster. the 914 maybe light but it is old fashioned and it could not get close to my S. Even with that huge 100hp engine.

The 5 series handles better than the 6 series.

The secret to the e28 handling is Bilstein competition shocks and shaved down 7 series balljoints (and upgraded brakes don't hurt).

My racing favorites are my E30 M3, 914-6 and the XJS only because I cannot afford a new Ferrari. The newer cars are really piles of crap and they don't last very long.

E39 M5s are not for drag racing, they are passenger sedans. E28s are not for drag racing, they are also passenger sedans. Drag racing is for people who either can't drive very well or are too scared to really race.

My E30 M3 will wipe out just about anything on a tight mountain road and my little old 914-6 will walk all over your Boxter S. The E28 is fantastic for the top end, but it is not a racing car, IT IS A PASSENGER SEDAN.

Ive raced E39 M5s and they only just beat my boxster S. Very heavy cars and are harder to get off the line quickly...

E28s are great classic cars. but they are far from a performance benchmark

Good job compensating there, the fact is that the Porsche has over a DECADE of knowledge and technology over the BMW, but still manages to lose...get over it.

And in terms of looks the M5 also wins.
