  • "nitrogenizing" is done in two steps by bacterial. You need a place for the bacteria to grow such as the surface of gravel or large wood chips. You need lots of surface area. Pee breaks down to basically ammonia. One strain of bacteria breaks the ammonia from pee down into nitrates, a second strain of bacterial break the nitrites down to nitrates. Nitrates are the perfect form of nitrogen for plants.
