The Miao Dao, Grain Leaf Sword, combines the fighting features of broadsword and spear. Its handle can be held with one hand or with two hands, while held in one hand it can attack distant targets. When held in two hands, both the arms and the waist can be applied with full force.

The movements of the Miao Dao are fluent yet compact, with the body supplying power to the weapon, while the waist steers the blade in its motions. An attack is always wrapped inside a defensive technique, while a defensive movement immediately transforms into an attack. Its interlinking movements and rapid evading footwork makes the Miao Dao wielder an unpredictable foe.

I hope all can enjoy objectively.

  • excellent clip, and great choice of music

    thanks for posting this!

  • thanks glad you liked it and more coming soon... mikemartello

  • It is not bad. But it is better for people to believe in a form, rather than liking it because the form or the weapon looks cool. Sorry for being a killjoy.

  • You are no killjoy. So true you are, but you feel people like this form because the weapon is kool looking? I understand. Well I only teach students this form beacuse they believe in the weapon and not the form. Forms are just books of movements and should not be the goals! They are needed but not to attach oneself too because of kool idea... Its wrong teachings and ideas from students that cause this problem...

    regards mike m..

  • They aren't from katanas.. they are a mix of a sword and a spear, and it is from the zhanmadao, which the katana is also from, making them kinda like sister weapons

  • @nanhuazhenren And the Japanese version is derived from the Tang dynasty Chinese one.

  • Can one really control the broadsword with one hand with the wrist contorted so if the blade meets strong resistance? And why does the blade clatter so loosely within the hilt? Please explain, I don't mean to offend, I merely want understanding.

  • Beautiful and fascinating sword form! The music really set the mood.

  • the Koreans went from a straight sword (very similar to the jian or gim commonly associated with Chinese martial arts) to a curved blade about the same time the Japanese did as structural it was better suited to fighting armored opponents and clashing blade to blade...unsurprisingly, a weapon with a similar structure was bound to pop up in northern China, where armored combatants were far more likely to run into each other than in the south...but I think the Koreans led the way on this one lol

  • Folding it multiple times does not give it strength.

  • You´re right, infact it is derived from the Japanese version.

  • Sadly Mike Martello has already passed away.

  • Sadly Mike Martello has already passed away.

  • I don't want to attend any disrespect but It kinda looks like a Katana.
