A timeless film about the American civil rights movement told through the soul-stirring music that birthed and fortified the fight from picket lines and mass meetings to paddy wagons and jail cells. This powerful doc, crafted by Oscar® winner Guttentag and Sturman (Nanking), pairs modern renditions of freedom songs by Wyclef Jean, John Legend, Joss Stone, The Roots, and others with a retelling of this important moment in history. Screening at the 2009 Tribeca Film Festival. For more information and tickets, visit www.tribecafilm.com/festival.

  • This is very touching they were saying i'm going out and these Devils may kill me but I'm going out to be free!

  • Slavery began in the 1600's and the civil rights movement started shortly before the Emmett Till death. With 400 years of hatred of Blacks in America, it's hard to watch this as an African-American and trust that a psychological change in whites has occurred. Especially seeing much of this hatred displayed openly towards our current U.S. President by Conservatives. Have white America really embraced love/acceptance towards minorities or is it just something "cool" to do?

  • This is such a wonderful film! I rented it from Netflix & highly recommend it! We need this kind of momentum for today's problems! Great history lessons that we should NEVER forget. Inspirational and moving!
