Here's a demonstration of the game play on a 1974 Sky Kings pinball machine. In HD and everything!

This machine was made by Bally and features two captive balls, a spinner, a kick-out hole and a couple of mushroom targets. Pretty fun game in spite of the lackluster reviews it tends to receive. It's neat to get a rhythm going from one captive ball to the next -- hitting the captive ball just right drops the ball perfectly into the in-lane to line up the shot to the other captive ball. Once you've found the sweet spot on the flippers, you can nail the captive ball one one side, then the other, repeatedly.

The spinner shot up the middle is pretty satisfying and I like the old-school Bally mushroom targets. That's a feature that the company used extensively throughout the 60's but got away from in the 70's.

This machine was designed by Jim Patla with artwork by Dick White. It's the single player version of Bally's Champ, which is the 4-player model.

I have a chance to pick up one of these, mostly working, says sometimes it does not register a ball's return? Do you know much about maintenance on the machine? Thanks.

Sounds like a dirty outhole switch. Likely not a big deal.

Does the bonus unit stop at 15,000 on this machine? Would have thought it would make it to 19,000 like on other Bally games.

Yes. The bonus stops at 15k. A quick look at the bonus unit confirms that it's supposed to stop at 15k.
