I have yet to read any of Orson's material and I KNOW he's beast author.

@NSGU Anything by Orson Welles is a safe bet. Children of Men by PD James is really good. Also Memnoch the Devil by Anne Rice is, from what I remember, a great one from the devil's point of view. It is a middle book in a series but it's pretty removed from the rest of the books. You can pick it up without knowing a lot about the other novels.

I'd prefer something that has a more or less philosophical tinge to the plot(whether it be metaphysical philosophy, quantum physics, theology, politics, etc.).
Basically, books like Canterbury Tales, Brave New World, and Dante's Divine Comedy.
