  • John ~ I am planning a thru hike of the CT this summer 2011 starting at the end of June. Do you have any tips? I am giving myself 4 weeks to finish. Did you summitt any 14ers during your CT thru hike? I'm looking at my first resupply box to be sent to Copperhead resort I believe it is called, is this a good place. I didn't want to go into Breckinridge because it's such an expensive town.

  • @ssprenger1 4 weeks is a good amount of time. I did summit San Luis peak and thought about Elbert and Massive (but didn't) Breckenridge is a great town and there's a good hostel there, but Copper mountain is fine for a drop. My biggest tip would be to start July or later to avoid heavy snow. Bring bug repellent too. the skeeters can be rough. Have fun and stop to enjoy the amazing scenery. The Colorado mountains along the CT are spectacular!

  • what is the first song for this video? i see you have done the AT and now colorado, what is your next hiking trip?

  • sorry it took so long to reply guys. The song is "Spirit of Shackleton" by Glen Phillips. The version is a remixed version that my friend in cleveland did as a part of a remix contest glen was doing. He ended up winning it.

Just search for spirit of shackleton SOS Hit Single by Michael Seifert and you can download it for free on kompoz

  • Indeed a great video man! What trail foods do you bring along that are space, weight and nutrient friendly?

  • I usually ate a freeze dried dinner (ie mountain house) and then several smaller snacks throughout the day that usually consisted of different types of bars. When in towns though, I ate whatever I could get my hands on :-)

  • john i would love to hike with you but your mileage is crazy 22 mile a day, and on your AT and PCT hikes it seemed like you consistenly did this or more. my body would fall apart!

  • Great video John. I want to make a DVD of the CT this summer. Your videos are inspirational. Cheers. FRED

  • With a week to go before I start (knock wood) my own through hike of the CT, this video is like water from a Nalgene on a hot day.... I feel lucky to follow in Lakewood's path. (P.S. No way I'll do it in 22 days -- but 44 days sounds doable, heh, heh).

  • Thanks for the inspiration! Was heading over to Denver this weekend to jump on this trail (somewhat addicted to hiking in the US after thru hiking the At last year!)

but changed flights to go walking in Nepal & Turkey instead... gives me a bit of time to plan out the CT properly & have a crack next Fall...cheers!

  • thanks john, will look for song, by the way keep doin what you are doin, great hiking and outdoor videos and your music is great I downloaded some of your songs on my ipod, good stuff
