I have to disagree with some of the comments below
I have no doubt to the effectiveness of the techniques or the credentials of a 25 year track record, its very impressive. Yet its clear that some of techniques are sweeps. Look at 02:57 for an example. Great throw, undeniably skilfull and effective, but without doubt illegal in aikido competition! I'd maybe give it ippon if it was Judo but it deserves the muko it is given. It's an illegal sweeping technique, no other way to view it. Sorry!
There are too many pretend Aikidoka on the net who can talk the talk, but can not walk the walk, all they do is make the purity of Aikido a laughing stock to the rest of the world...
I’ve shown video proof of techniques that have been clean, but wrongly ruled as sweeping by referees, and guess what, the ruling changed to no video evidence will be considered...
For the sake of all Aikido, try to be gracious in your comments, or say nothing at all, you damage your own dojo, as much as the rest of us
I'd rather do Free-play flowing Aikido, than do all that walrus slapping, which seems to be the future of competition, that you all seem to love so much...
Judo used to be light and flowing, look where it is now, be careful of what you wish for
You can state your opinion about our style of Aikido and it is just that, an opinion, where as we have actually consistently and cleanly thrown in competition for 25 years(and not hurt anyone) and that is a Fact, not an Opinion.
Deek jones, very interesting indeed, Dubious Sweeping techniques, hmmm...
A weak Budo spirit, leads to insecurity about your ‘style’, so that you feel you have to leave barbed comments guised as a compliment.
I'm not going to say that we’ve ever been perfect Aikidoka, but we’ve had our moments in competition where we have performed the ‘perfect throw’, more often than most...
Steve & Gary Hogg performing dubious sweeping techniques (??!!) is the opinion of those that end up on their arse. Aikido techniques that work come before the current vogue in competition rules. Win or lose, you know you've been thrown by the Hogg brothers.

I was there watching with Itsuo Haba, and we thought Gary was a good player and moves really well. He uses his stockiness to great effect well done!!

Interesting ! Many positive techniques with very good balance breaking, its a wonder that if Gary had thrown him any more times , he may have lost !
Excellent Aikido
