http://www.cchrint.org/protectelderly/ An estimated 15,000 Elderly patients are killed ever year from antipsychotic drugs - while thousands more are electroshocked.
Psychiatry and those who follow their practices (drugs, restraints, electroshock) have no reverence or respect for the elderly, and employ dangerous drugs and 'treatments' as a method of control and keeping them quiet. They will happily supply endless prescriptions of psychoactive drugs or ECT. In just a six-month time period in 2007, Medicare received $309 million in claims for antipsychotics for elderly in nursing homes. Daniel R. Levinson, Office of Inspector General (OIG), Department of Health and Human Services, stated recently, "Despite the fact that it is potentially lethal to prescribe antipsychotics to patients with dementia, there's ample evidence that some drug companies aggressively marketed their products towards such populations, putting profits before safety.... Government, taxpayers, nursing home residents, as well as their families and caregivers should be outraged -- and seek solutions."

  • Question about ECT: your references are older references, and I'm interested to know about the current information you have regarding ECT? NAMI discussed it with Bipolar and pregnancy as a treatment, but I do not think that it is used at the frequency mentioned in your video. I do appreciate that there are people taking an interest in the elderly because they are often forgotten. Just curious about your sources for the information because I have not heard this before. Thank you.

  • @geroneuropsychnut Yes, it is used at the frequency. According to National Mental Health America, 100,000 people are electroshocked every year in the US alone. 1 million worldwide. Australia just reported electroshock treatments have increased by almost 30 per cent in the past five years in New South Wales. In Ireland, press reports that 12% of ECT victims never give consent. Our sources of information are all on our site - cchrint.org just search electroshock and you'll find many of them.

  • What happens in the U.S. is your bussiness. That is not the case in Canada. Who do you think you are to attack my standards as a R.N. I went into nursing to help people. No where in my pledge did it say, oh yea' hang onto your hat, because you will get emotionally, physically, and verbally abused daily. 99% of nurses would run the other way, if they knoew what was coming in their work. I have lots of compassion. But not for big mouth beurocrats like you.

    Are you front line staff???

  • @Saskkat Uh huh. "Crisis Behind Closed Doors: Antipsychotic Drugging of Canada Seniors "Nearly half of all seniors in long-term care in BC are being given antipsychotics. That’s amongst the highest rates found anywhere in the world. And even though Health Canada warns these drugs cause a doubling of death rates in the elderly, care workers admit they’re mainly being used as chemical restraints in the absence of adequate staffing and proper oversight." Enough said.

  • Electroshock therapy on the elderly? I had no idea this was happening, where can I find out more info?

  • @TheNettlefairy if you google this title you will find an entire article on the topic of ECT on not only the elderly, but pregnant women and children "Think They Don’t Electroshock People Anymore? Think Again–Even toddlers and pregnant women are being shocked" also search our website cchrint.org for electroshock

  • @Saskkat perhaps they are violent because, as the U.S. Government has now A) exposed and B) launched a federal investigation into, is the fact that they are being drugged to death with antipsychotics which the FDA warns should NEVER be perscribed to patients with dementia.

. The side effects of those drugs include violence, mania, psychosis and death. As an RN one would think you would be A) more tolerant and B) better informed. Not to mention compassionate.

  • Who cares about old people? Drug them up and keep em quiet, which helps the drug companies with a steady income, too.

  • This breaks my heart. The elderly "seinor citizens" are the most patient, kind hearted, gentle souls in this sadistic world. This is so sad. I swear I won't let my dear mommy go through any of this if I can help it.

  • @Saskkat SIck fuck

  • This video is so true. This happened to my father. In his eighties, while he was dying of an aortic aneurysm that his doctor scared him into believing could not be repaired, I found another doctor who would do it less invasively without cutting him open through a large vein in the leg. It gave him a few extra years. This jerk doctor put him on anti-depressants because he was willing to talk about his impending death. The doctor was the SICKO. I challenged the DR and caused trouble for him.

  • This needs to be exposed.

  • Thank-you CCHR for making these awesome videos. People need to know. My Mom was put on anti-psychotics in a nursing home. My family were led to believe that it was the latest cure for Alzheimers. She had two strokes and went from being healthy physically to being a vegetable. We cannot prove that these drugs did it but I could see the deterioration. She has now passed away.

Keep it up! You are making a huge difference. if people know they can make informed choices.

  • This is a great ad. I've shared it on Facebook & Myspace to spread the word. Thanks for all you do, CCHR!

  • The elderly need respect, independence and people who have enough integrity not to use Natzi experiments on them. Obviously not being done in Nursing homes all over the world.
