When King Taejo founded the Joseon Dynasty in 1392 and designated Seoul its new capital, he built the Jongmyo Royal Shrine to honor his ancestors. Today, Korea is the only country to have preserved its royal Confucian shrine and ancestral rites, and each May the ceremony is opened to the public.

  • too bad the Joseon Dynasty was actually founded by Taejo in 1392. Sort of embarrassing to start with a mistake

  • Thanks for the video, saw it on the DK website and I had to favorite the video. I was actually looking for this particular ceremony for the Jeonju Lee clan :)
