Two things: when Ivan got into prime physical condition he became one of the best ever. Second: Samantha Frankel was one of the best tennis WAGs ever. She was gorgeous....

Ivan Lendl is the pioneer of modern tennis...Federer is the combination of Lendl and Sampras game...and better matériel helps...but Lendl Is a king and the others 2 their princes ;)...RF1 2012 fed Power

@melende1966 .Yes.One of my favorite players of all time at his best against one of his greatest rivals.I saw this match live....I so miss the Nabisco Masters in the Garden for the men.And the Virginia Slims Championships for the women.Those were great matches at a wonderful venue.I work in NYC and got to see some of them in person.

I agree, the commentators who sided on Becker being #1 for the year were wrong. Lendl won 2 Grand Slam tourneys, Becker won 1, which was Wimbledon. But outside of Wimbledon, Becker didn't make any other finals of a Slam that year. Lendl made 3, winning 2.

Also, Lendl had lost only 6 matches throughout the year. Becker had already lost 12.
