Coilgun @1kJoule, (max 4kJoule)

I built this, so you don't have to do so, too. This contruction needs very high voltage and you could die if you try this at home.

The Problem is, that even this small Coil creates a maximum field of several MA/m which results in an magnetic field of up to 10 Tesla in Vacuum. This is much more than any ferromagnetic projectile is capable, so its very inefficient. The aim is to create a very inhomogenous Field of maximum 4 Tesla so the projectile has maximum acceleration. But in the moment I don't make further tests or prototypes...

To be true, the Elkos are really oversized. But they were so cheap on ebay. (12€)

where you get your capacitors? and what are their specs?

You must make 10 - 30mm ri projectile, use wire1 - 2mm and 100cycles, than i think you will have MEGACOILGUN - now you have 0,0001% efficiency - its normal for such bad condition of coil and caps - try to make voltage lower - 400v is the best variant, and use thick wire and you will be happy. It's not a coilgun) Coilgun's has efficiency about 1-4% for a single coil stage, and your "coilgun" have 0,0001% i think. I can break CD with 80J source energy or even less.

woher hast du soviele elkos? und kann man die auch parallel auf ampere nicht volt laden? hab nur 12 netzteile, will aber nicht die sicherung "explodieren" lassen!
