De toute façon il s'agit d'un chant des "alpini" (élite de soldats de montagne), dont le titre est "Era una notte che pioveva" (C'était une nuit où l'on pleuvait). Mes meilleures salutations!

Since the character he plays gained his position threw bribery, corruption, violence and even lies (the scene when he collects the donation from the church being his "christening" into the fascist order, replacing De Niro's character in this position), it does need to be representative of such tendencies, which makes his character logical in its portrayal as s cynical, violent and, most of all, perverted person...
