I've been looking for a sound effect that's in this game for a while now. I have tried the program you mentioned, but for some reason it won't extract the client_sound.dat file...
Was wondering if you could somehow find the sound some creatures (mostly wrights etc, in the Lore Lands and Great Barrows) make that eventually scare you. They inhale deeply, then scream at their target, which also makes your screen shake a little... Hope you can help!

How did you extract these?

@GreveHugo you're gonna kill me, but i totally forget. i just remember searching variations on "lotro dat extract" on google, and i eventually downloaded a program that could read .dat files. i'll look around again and get you an answer.
the downside is the structure of the files isn't really publicly known, so the file names were all something like "client_sound 12345.wav" instead of something more helpful.

@GreveHugo i've started to sort them out in my spare time into categories like music, sound effects, etc. i'm mostly interested in the music, and there's some seriously kickass music that never got released on the soundtracks. i'm thinking of identifying where a lot of these tracks play in the game (somehow), and making a lotromusic youtube channel or something and start sharing this awesome stuff.

@GreveHugo found it. search for Nova Extractor in google, it's the first result.
first off, the default language is russian, so you'll have to go to the third tab and switch the first drop down menu to english. next, in the formats tab, select only .wav and .ogg files. there are also .txt files in the client_sound dat file, but those are encrypted and each one is only like 5 characters of text apiece. i'm guessing the game can read those as a whole and it's a guide of when to play each file.
