Requiem 共分七個樂章
第一樂章由 Requiem Aternam 和 Kyrie Eleison 組成,是人們 求上主憐憫,垂聽禱求,賜予安息的呼籲 。本樂章一開始以定音鼓與 豎琴營造混沌之勢。由合唱隊以同一中央 C 音(middle C)發展出極 度不和諧的聚合音列,並以低吟的聲音引出主題。於中段激動地呼喊 上主聆聽呼求,以表示極度沉痛、哀慟之情懷。最後緩緩徐落,祈求 上主憐憫的主題重新呈現。
