Gene O'Quin gone back to Texas (1978), him and his wife, back to the Dallas area to see his mother, just for a vacation. And they got back there and liked it so good they decided they'd just move back there. I got this story from Molly Bee, she called me when it happened. He decided to move back out there ... He told her just to stay there with his mother and he'd drive a little Toyota car ... back out there to California and load it up with their belongings and come back.
He got the car all loaded up and got out at Riverside, and the bus lost its brakes and went out of control and went right over the top of him. They said it took three hours to get him out of the car.
Gene O'Quin was a fantastic little guy. He could have been one of the biggest things on television. He could've had his own show nationally and been one of the biggest artists on TV. But you couldn't depend on Gene. He'd be liable to be out at the horse races, you know, instead of being at the station, where he should be ... but you couldn't keep from loving the little guy.
