A friend I know from Austin says Gladys is actually a comedian from that area, a guy. He does voice work in commercials and has performed on CDs with Larry the Cable Guy. His name is Scott Hardy. He's really good with the old lady voice, isn't he?

@Edog15yeah Not fake at all. Do a search for: Weekend America, Gladys Calls. If you do, you'll find an audio of that magazine's article about who Gladys really is. If you listen to it, you'll find that her name is Scott Hardy, a comedian who worked at a comedy club in Austin. Just because the truth comes out doesn't mean that audiences can't enjoy the phone calls. Does anyone get mad when Jonathan Winters dresses up as an old lady? No, they laugh. So enjoy Scott's great humor.Don't get mad.

Try reading through some of the comments below. They explain where to look for the guy who actually does the voice for Gladys Hardy.  He has put out some comedy CDs as his character "Gladys", so that might be what you're looking for. I know "Gladys" has a myspace, as mentioned below, so there's probably a link to his merchandise. I've heard clips from them and it's pretty much downhome, country type humor.

Why can't it be a skit? You don't really think Ellen is going to put a caller on the air without some idea of what they are going to say first, do you? Beside, even if Ellen didn't know on that first call, there's no way she doesn't know now. If news magazines. like the one listed in widdat's comment, can find out about the "real" Gladys, so could Ellen's producers. Ellen's job is to make people laugh. Gladys is a gold mine for her show.
