I made the non-cooked version of this today, but doubled the recipe and used less alcohol, this stuff is pretty awesome, I probably won't buy the store bought stuff again.

In actuality, the FDA Food Code exempts pasteurized shell eggs from the definition of a potentially hazardous food. Likewise, the U.S. Department of Agriculture exempts pasteurized shell eggs from the requirement to carry a safe handling advisory statement, stating that “In-shell pasteurized eggs may be safely consumed without cooking.”

@VALsacount2 It would, but some people take their nog sans bourbon. However, pasteurizing the eggs effectively kills pathogenic bacteria and the FDA food code does allow for the use of pasteurized eggs (which are not technically raw, as pasteurization is as process of flash heating food, usually to 275 °F, then immediately cooling) in food preparations such as Caesar salad, hollandaise or Béarnaise sauce, mayonnaise, meringue, eggnog, egg-fortified beverages and ice cream.

I dont see whats the big deal in feeding kids foods with alcholic beverages in it. Usually in food the liqour cooks out just fine so they wont get drunk and neither will you. In the Eggnog Alton is saying, this seems like a Christmas only thing so its not like your feeding it to your kids all year. Also like Alton said it'll help them sleep and on christmas eve, isn't that the point? No Im not saying kids can get drunk on the holidays but a treat once in a while isnt nessacary a bad thing...
