Superheroes in the DC U have finally acheived noticeable mythological status with Final Crisis. The Marvel U has gone nowhere near that. Final Crisis is entirely about saving and preserving the constant true mode of reality/Creation from the fallen/satanic nature and nihilism of Darkseid.

Yes, like Gus Van Sant's Psycho, I admire Snyder for sticking pretty close to the source material, but any flourishes he added himself were wretched.

PS: I think Nite Owl was channeling Charlton Heston in that scene...
-
yes but it is quickly followed by Nite owl screaming "noooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
ooooooo!!!" which reminded me a little of Darth Vader. Also, Zack Snyder loves to remind you that this is HIS movie with his little tricks and gore. Luckily, Dr Manhattan and Rorschach were enough to make the movie enjoyable.

Well, "perfect" is an exaggeration. I wasn't happy with the trailers, or the screen shots. The actors looked faceless. But after seeing it, the actors playing Rorschach, Ozymandias and Dr. Manhattan were better than anyone I could have imagined. The Comedian was my least favourite...pretty typical. Silk Spectre, I'm on the fence about her.
*spoiler*
Best acting moment: Jackie Earle Haley/Rorschach, just before he is executed "Do it...DO IT!" I never imagined that moment would be so tragic.
-
I would also give it a 7/10 but I would have to disagree with the "perfect casting". Some of the dialouge was delivered in a emotionless manner. Especially with silk spectre...

The intention to alter and dominate Creation in his (Darkseid) image or order was the initial plan but it eventually led to nihilism. Darkseid was dying since Seven Soldiers. He was simply going to be shut out of Creation as a disembodied spirit. That was the doom he knew, as a god, would befall him. He would forever be trapped in an eternal void of Darkness as punishment. Hence, he (Darkseid) chose nihilism and to bring all of Creation down the abyss with him.

There were a few spots in Final Crisis that could have been tweaked, but overall, the project was so ambitious, innovative, and enthralling, its laughable that ANYONE even compares it to an audience-pandering piece of s*** like Secret Invasion.
Final Crisis, despite its flaws, is a true superhero classic.

Please enjoy the opening skit as much as you can, because it has been censored on our local TV station. This is the only place you can see it.
