Mordy Golding walks through one the most anticipated new features in Illustrator CS4, multiple artboards. With multiple artboards, you can keep related, but separate and even differently sized artwork together in a single document. Mordy shows you how to create a document with multiple artboards from scratch, how to add, edit, and delete artboards within the documents canvas using the new Artboard tool, and some handy shortcuts for navigating an Illustrator document with multiple artboards.

  • @jlumley Ohhhhh, I thought you meant rotate the canvas as if it were it's own shape. The canvas control options would be nice in illustrator. For now, I suppose you could use photoshops pen tool with its canvas control options and then copy-paste the finished shapes/paths into illustrator for fine tuning.

  • @voltecdesign for freehand drawing, when you watch someone drawing with a piece of paper you notice them rotating the paper all over the place (that is because the hand is stronger along one axis depending on the person). Photo shop allows for full rotation of the canvas.

  • @jlumley Why would you want to? I can't see a purpose for that at all for anything you would want to accomplish in illustrator.

  • The best way to work with the multiple artboards is to set it up when you first create your new document. File, New--select number of artboards. Trying to add them after you have already started a new file seems too cumbersome.

  • LINDAPODSCAST,,PLEASE..CONTROL YOUR ENGLISH

  • this is all well and good (and obvious) but how do you auto add more artboards?!?!?

i know you can manually place them but i just want multiple boards added and aligned, so i dont have to visually try to align them all, one by one.

  • so can you import different existing files into the various artboards? or can you only create graphics within the multiple boards from scratch only?

  • yes.. go get it.. its more powerful with the little things specially aligning and stuff like that. plus the cool interface.. unlike the cs3 it kinda felt wrong for me.

  • nice, but seems useless because they share the same layers palette, it would be better if they where treated as separate files altogether.

  • I have Illustrator cs3, and Is illustrator cs4 a worthy upgrade? if not, are there any flaws I should consider?
