@Jalteck You dont get it, theres no such thing as "working our way out of this debacle"! The Fed Res using the fiat standard is DESIGNED mathematically to expand debt forever. Thats the sick genius behind it. We will NEVER pay off; or by any substantive means REDUCE this country's debt to allow us to even CONSIDER a fundamental change to our economic safety net. It has absolutely 0 to do with ANY candidate. Im tired of people wasting breath with political rhetoric because it sounds nice.

@Jalteck I didnt say it was vital to US INTERESTS, but unfortunately it IS vital to the U.S econ. I like the idea of scrapping the Fed. Res. system for the very reasons you mentioned. The problems is investors buy U.S debt BASED on the Fed. Res backing. We have NOTHING by way of a gold standard to back our debt, not even close! This Country will NEVER politically and mathematically reduce debt low enough to remove the Res. system. It IS too big to fail! That is the sad genius behind it.

@vincentca2004 Im not a proponent of the Fed. Res. I agree with everything youve said, the PROBLEM is that at THIS point in time, the amount of debt,11, or 16, or even $120 trillion; based on unfunded entitlements, you cant simply decide one day to go back to a gold standard that simply isnt there to back this econ. Its impossible. I agree to the IDEA in theory, but the weight of this accrued debt from both parties makes the Fed. Res the largest entity that is too big to fail.

@jock244u1 By the way the national debt is $16 trillion and unfunded liabilities such as medicare and social security are $120 trillion in debt. Twice as much as world GDP. Keep believing it will all be OK. Even a 2 yr old can see what is ahead, a brick wall! The USA madness train is heading towards it with only 2% of the emergency brakes left at 500 mph. Good luck stopping it when those brakes aren't useful any longer...
