Final preparations are being made for the competition, to be held from July 4 to 11, 2009
Cantabria and Real Club Marítimo de Santander (the Royal Sailing Club of Santander) have been chosen to host the World J80 Championships, to be held from July 4 to 11 on Cantabrian waters.
A very large turnout exceeding a hundred vessels is expected, with over a thousand competitors taking part. The sailors will come from all over the world and will include previous world champions. This sailing class has a great tradition on Cantabrian waters and just in Santander around 40 J80 vessels compete. Some of the strongest boats on the world circuit will come to Santander, including vessels from France, England, Germany, Sweden, Italy, Holland and the United States. The J80 class has become one of the most popular in sailing and, in recent years, it has grown spectacularly. Real Club Marítimo de Santander, which presented a great project to the International Association, is making the final preparations for this competition, for which it already has the support of various official and private entities.
