Been pretty quiet for a whie with my dashcam, but it was a bad day today.

1) Car loses the back end in light snow. It's an Accord... ??

2) Car behind me is hit by a glancing rear-ender.

3) Gold car makes an unsignaled double-lane-change to the left forcing me to swerve/brake. My front bumper was level with her c-pillar when she made her lane changes so she woudl have hit me fi I hadn't braked/swerved.

4) Focus makes an illegal lane change while slowing rapidly forcing me to swerve/brake. Upon playing the 4-channel video back it turns out she started directly behind me but was apparently upset at the amount of stopping distance I left (snow and ice on ground). She tried to pass but got stuck behind other traffic in the next lane left. We are approaching a merge point where a two-lane freeway ramp is approaching from the right for us to merge into so as she starts her signal I'm actually looking over the concrete wall at the road I'm about to merge on to, figuring out if I need to adjust my speed to find a gap. When I looked back she was already 1/4 of the way into my lane.




Video shows less than a second of turn signal before she crossed the white line, and that although she started about a half-carlength ahead of me she also braked heavily which brough the back level with me. I didn't accelerate

@xavierboy24 My experience is that the horn only helps when the person doesn't know I'm there. In both cases the other driver barged in intentionally knowing that I wouldn't allow and accident to happen. The horn would have dont nothing except deprive me of a hand from steering wheel.

@Scruit I have found that when I am trying to avoid another car, it is very difficult for me to control the vehicle while honking the horn.

@xavierboy24 I agree with Scruit. Once I heard someone say: "The horn should only be used to PREVENT an accident." That stuck with me. Its not for scolding people to make oneself feel better, its for preventing a collision. To honk unnecessarily would increase the danger to all within earshot, since it could needlessly distract or startle anyone who hears it. I might have honked at 0:38 but only Scruit was there and he may have been able to assess factors we couldn't see.

@Scruit Learn to drive 1 handed. Honk to let people know you're not backing off. I always honk for a good 10-20 seconds against any jack@ss trying to get into an accident.

At first, I though you were at fault in the last one for passing on the right. The second time I watched it I noticed that she SLOWED DOWN for the lane change. Stupid.

@Scruit What are you 80? That's something an 80 year old would say. LOL. Any who, I respect your decision to not honk. We all handle situations differently. Furthermore, as you may know, many people would honk in situations 0:23 and 0:38.
