Brendan Bowyer, born 12 October 1938 in Waterford, Ireland, is an Irish singer best known for fronting The Royal Showband, who had five number one hits in Ireland, and The Big Eight. He is also renowned for having The Beatles open for him at a concert in 1962 at the Liverpool Empire Theatre. This was a big hit in 1965.

Yeah, we all know that the original comes from Chubby Checker...but in my opinion the version of the Royal Showband of Waterford with lead-singer Brendan Bowyer has more "power" and it must be said: each time the Hucklebuck is being played no matter where... everybody gets onto the dance floor...no one can resist dancing to this tune...Thanks for posting this...we all enjoy it very well....

A confused drunken evening with many gathered for the main show.
The pre-show did little bits of this and that, then they did this.
Most had no idea. I loved it. So did another little lady to my left who also knew the song. We found eachother out quick smart.
That was thirty years ago. We are old friends now.

An Australian comment on The Impalas version of the flipside of this, I Ran All The Way Home, rated Brendan's version higher, Hucklebuck it topped the charts in Australia.
